Can I use English sockets and cable in France?

You would think that as long as the fittings have the CE marking that you could use them anywhere in the European Union... WRONG!
If you use English fittings, and especially English cable (of the old twin and earth variety), you risk having your installation either declined from being connected in the first place, or in some cases having it disconnected! BE WARNED
English twin and earth cable usually has the earth unsheathed and one size smaller than the two main conductors. In France all conductors in a cable must be the same size and be insulated, also all conductors on a circuit must be all of the same size. Nothing else is permitted.
